How To House Train a Puppy

Most of us are not stay at home dog owners who can watch our puppies all the time. We have work, school and other obligations that force us to leave our little furry friends home for most of the day alone.

This really is not the best way to put to good use all that you have heard about how to house train a puppy as most of them tell you that you need to be home all day. So what you really need to learn is how to house train a puppy while working a full time job.

It is really not going to be an easy task. Having a little puppy, which has very little knowledge of what is right and what is wrong will have a hard time being home alone. With no one to tell him what to do and do and no one around to provide companionship, it can become very lonely.

This is such an impressionable time in your puppy’s life so being home alone is not the best choice and if you have any opportunity to avoid doing so, I highly recommend it.

Beyond just learning how to house train a puppy in your spare time, it is important to really consider if this is even the right time for you to raise a puppy. When you come home from work will you be able to give your puppy the attention and love it deserves?

Will you be able to come home and patiently clean up any messes or accidents that happened while you were gone? Can you find a way to come home at some point during the day to take your puppy outside to go to the bathroom?

If not, is there anyone who can visit my home and take my puppy out? It really wouldn’t be fair to expect your puppy to ‘hold it’ all day long while you are gone.

If after saying yes to the above questions you want to continue on with learning how to house train a puppy while working full time then here are some tips that will get you started down the right track.

1. Timing Is Important

Get your new puppy when your life is not as stressful as other times of the year. For example, if you are a teacher you may want to get one in the summer time when you have less work. Also during the summer the days are longer so you can spend more time outdoors after work with your puppy.

2. Get Some Assistance

See if you can get a neighbor, friend, family member or maybe even your kids to help out with potty training your puppy while you are at work.

3. Sign Up For A Training Course

If you can join a dog training course and learn how to house train a puppy early on that is the best solution.
