The number one rule to obedience training puppies is to always be patient and positive. The puppy thrives on the positive attention and will eagerly learn whatever you try to teach it.
Remember the puppy is a youngster. There will be times it will be unruly and ill behaved. As with all youngsters it will also get into things and forget the training you spent hours with it on. Remain calm and patient as the puppy goes through this phase.
To correct the naughty puppy use a stern but gently voice. Do not hit or slap the puppy. This will only cause the puppy to fear you making further training more complicated. Here are some methods that effective to deal with the naughty puppy.
When the puppy is doing something that you catch it “in the act” clap your hands together to capture the puppys attention. Say “bad dog” and then clap your hands again.
The tone should be stern and low-pitched. The difference of the tone and pitch with the clapping teach the puppy you are not happy which goes against its nature of wanting to please you.
If the puppy is jumping up on the couch or people push gently the puppy down to the floor. Say off and hold the puppy on the floor. When the puppy calms down say good dog and pat it. The fact of a positive reaction and affection will teach the puppy if it does well then it will be rewarded with positive attention.
Remain constant with the discipline for every negative action of the puppy. This means do not allow it to do something bad one time but the next time you react. This is confusing to the puppy.
Remain constant firm gentle and positive. Your actions will train the puppy to behave in a positive manner. Obedience training puppies does not have to be a difficult thing.
