When it comes to puppy training classes you have many different options. Although you may have had your dog for a while, it is not too late to start classes and begin with the basics again to make sure you have taught your dog everything he needs to know.
Believe it or not, puppy training classes are not just for your puppy, they are for you as well. All great programs, even online ones such as Dog Train Academy teach you, the owner, right along with your dog.
Actually, the first session or so of puppy training classes is pretty much just for the owners. So the trainer can teach you how to be an a better owner and master for your pet. This is usually referred to as orientation. Here you will learn what is expected of both you and your furry friend.
The early classes usually help you teach your puppy the basic commands such as ‘come’, ’sit’, ‘heel’ and ’stay’. You are also able to leash train your puppy and teach him to be good around strangers. Although the classes are great, don’t expect to just train your puppy during class time. You will be doing a lot of homework with him in between sessions.
Puppy training classes are there to give you the skills needed to teach your own dog. The trainer cannot teach your puppy for you.
